About World Responsible Tourism Awards 2013

“This is the 10th year of the World Responsible Tourism Awards, which have grown to be the largest and most respected responsible tourism awards in the world! To celebrate our 10th year we have made it bigger and better than ever before. “

“We really wanted to draw attention to important issues that are not addressed and discussed enough.“

“The Responsible Tourism Awards were founded in 2004 to celebrate and inspire change in the tourism industry. The Awards rest on a simple principle – that all types of tourism, from niche to mainstream, can and should be organised in a way that preserves, respects and benefits destinations and local people.
We want to celebrate the shining stars of responsible tourism – the individuals, organisations and destinations working innovatively with local cultures, communities and biodiversity.”

NEW CATEGORY FOR THIS YEAR ONLY.

“Best for the Local Economy”
This category is entirely focused on finding organisations that have made a real impact on poverty reduction and job creation, resulting in improving the standard of living of the communities where they operate. These organisations might have brought tourism to an area where it did not exist before, and therefore they would have contributed to growing the local economy. Positive action might also be evidenced through initiatives that involve sourcing local materials, food and drinks or craft. In fact, you can nominate any organisation that impact substentially and positively on the local economy.

By local, we mean a village, a town, a city or  even a neighbourhood in a city. In very small countries, this could also apply to a region or to the country as a whole. 2013 shortlist,

The winners in each of the categories, as well as the overall winner, will be announced in a prestigious ceremony at World Travel Market (WTM) in London on World Responsible Tourism Day – Wednesday 6th November 2013
